Crank pos. sensor?

I don't own a 7.3, but I'm in the middle of a debate with a guy that says that they don't have a crank position sensor. Is that true? If so, then how do they keep the injector timing correct, if it doesn't know where the pistons are?

They do have one and they are common to fail in the 7.3.

That's what I thought, this guy was trying to be a smarty pants I guess. I asked him the same question, about how to time the injectors of it doesn't know what stroke the piston is on. He still hasn't responded to my question :) Thanks for proving me right.

It depends your both right and both wrong. The 7.3L does not have a Crank Position Sensor. But they do have a Cam Positioning Sensor. It is a common Fail and when it does Fail you never know what the truck is gonna act like.

That makes sense to me now. I forgot that they were central camshafts, its no different than setting up the timing on an old V8, with a distributor gear on the cam. Thanks
