Hi - are there any auto start kits that will work with a manual tranny? Also, would it be reasonably possibly to install it myself?

Last question, I know they are typically designed (legally sold for) auto trannys only, would it be possible to somehow wire the safety device (the in park safety) to the parking / emergency brake so it wouldn't start without e-brake fully engaged?

yes!!! i just got done installing one on my truck today. cost me 49.99 at k-mart.it for a gas vehicle and a auto.i fabbed it up to work.i had to bypass the clutch interlock switch so it would start with out the clutch.then the rest of the install is the same as a gasser.as far as your last question im not sure, prolly a way though.i have yet to see if it will wait for the glow plugs yet when it gets a bit colder though. mine is a bulldog rs 700

yea i had a civic at one point that was stick shift and i put remote start on it. you have to bypass clutch saftey switch (if equiped) and wire the park netural wire from system to the park brake switch. and wire the brake pedal wire from system to the clutch switch.

Honestly. Why? I think I would rather be able to watch my gauges at startup more than have it warm or cold before I got in the thing.

like they said just bypass the clutch safety. but be careful, I remember a few years ago a guy was selling his lambo at barret jackson and was demonstrating the remote start to a potential bidder the day before it went on the block. It was in gear and nailed another car that was up for auction

alot of the auto starts are capable to work with standard veh. Some may require the purchase of a few extra items to make it work properly with the clutch and ebrake. Do it right and get the proper auto start and accessories. If you try to rig the clutch bypass without using the proper accessories you are taking your life and possibly someone elses life into your hands.

I have a prostart on my manual car. It uses a safety procedure instead of clutch switch. Set brake, foot off brake pedal, press and hold door lock or unlock button for a couple seconds. remove key (engine stays running) and exit vehicle. once all doors are closed, press door lock and doors lock and vehicle shuts off. Opening any doors or touching the brake pedal disables the autostart. Cannot leave in gear this way.
They are only available in canada at Canadian Tire, but can be found on ebay.
There is a programming selection on it that can be used for diesels - warms up the glow plugs.

I'm not crazy about the idea of bypassing the clutch switch and or using the parking brake switch in place of the neutral switch. I'm pretty sure that even with the parking brake on if you left it in low or reverse it could still crank, start, run and move. I've thought about seeing how hard it would be to rig a switch to the transfer case shifter to detect neutral there. I think the Prostart is really the way to go.

CT-3371 is the closest to what I have. Mine is a few years older. It has a bunch of extra features that can be turned off or on, such as the horn beeping with the locks, cold weather timer with miltiple times, diesel mode, turbo timer, trunk unlock (could be used for something else?) and others.

The website:

ProStart | ProGuard - Total Vehicle Convenience at your Fingertips

the owners manual lists all the features in more detail

Also, as an added bonus for those that install themselves - in the support section of the website, enter your vehicle information and your remote starter's serial number and they give you detailed installation instructions. Mine even had colour pictures.:thumb:
