Chrome grill surround bubbling! help

Havent driven the truck in a month. The weather here has been in the single digitit and sub digits. I did a walk around the truck today and noticed the chrome grill surround was bubbling bad. One spot was the size of a dollar bill and others smaller. Took it in to the local dealer. They said warranty would cover it. yay but then they looked up the warranty and it had just expired last month. Crap. I priced a new chrome one for $560 and a new Painted to match one from ford was $515. I like the chrome but am afraid in another two years it will just do it again. Any suggestions? does anyone have pics of a truck with a painted grill surround with a chrome bumper? Maybe any other aftermarket ideas? Does anyone know if a 2011 model grill fit on a 2008? Has anyone had any luck painting something like this maybe? Thanks

The can be painted, look up the how to thread on the forum. I would sand the bubbles with a 240 grit, then the whole grille with a 320 grit, use adhesion promoter (Bull dog or Dupont) then a sandable primer, sand with 800 grit, lay 2 coats of color, then 3 coats of clear.

I want to correct my above post, I started working on my bubbling grill yesterday. The chrome will peel off with a razor blade, needle nose pliers, flat head screw driver, and a lot of patience. You can't paint without getting all the chrome off.

I saw a guy try that, it destroyed the grill and he ended up buying a new one.
