Custom woodgrain steering wheel installed (PICS)...

I've been purchasing these modified wheels from a guy on eBay for years. I installed one on my old '98 GMC 1/2 ton Sierra and also on an old '07 F150 King Ranch. For anyone else interested in one of these steering wheels, here is his link on eBay...

Truck-N-Van-Man eBay user profile

He doesn't always have the wheel you're looking for on eBay. If you want a custom wheel, just contact him and he'll make it for you (as I did for my F250). I wanted a black wheel with woodgrain to match the factory dash with cutouts for the steering wheel controls.

You can also e-mail him here... rjmansmith@aol.com ...his name is Bob.

Here are a few pics after installing it last night...

How much to do the custom work?

My leather is worn in a few places and looking ugly.

That is EXACTLY what I have been looking for.

The leather in my 06 Lariat is a little iffy -- I was thinking if I could find someone to match the wood it would hold up better.

What do I need to ask for to get the same thing? Price?

Adam

I paid $245, but that includes a $65 core charge that will be refunded to you after you return the stock wheel. So, it runs $180. Not bad at all IMO and well worth it to me.

As far as what to ask, just tell him you want the woodgrain that matches the factory dash (I'd recommend snapping a pic of your woodgrain and also a pic of your wheel and e-mailing the pics so he can see for himself). Tell him black or tan leather trim around the wheel and whether or not you want the cutouts for the steering wheel controls. That is about it.

Also, the swap is a breeze and took me about 45 minutes to an hour...and that was with me taking my time.

Let me know if there are any other questions.

NOTE: The woodgrain isn't a 100% match. The design is almost dead on, but the color is just a tad darker. It isn't very noticable and under most light conditions you can't even tell.

One more question -- what is the woodgrain made of? Is it some type of plastic (not actual wood I assume)? It would be great if I knew for sure it would be more durable than the original leather.

It is definitely more durable than the original leather. Correct, it is not real wood. I'd e-mail the guy and ask him what exactly the material is made of, but similar to the stuff Lincoln puts on their cars.
