Has anyone seen this before? I had two pushrods bend and one seems to have broken a chip off the inside of the head. I installed a new pushrod and motor seems to be idling fine. Im not sure I should be driving it around with that chip floating around in there. Does anyone have any idea what could have caused this or where the chip of metal might have ended up?

I was hoping that would be the reply. I wasn't sure if it would get stuck in the valley and get knocked around by the cam then jammed up somewhere. My plan is to put a couple big magnets on the oil pan and cross my fingers. I cant pull the motor right now I need the truck, but I will pull it in the next few months and check the pan. Anyone have any other ideas of what I can do?

That is just over cast from when the head was cast. If the chip made it past the cam and rotating assembly your fine. just below the lifter bores is the cam, and below that the crank. The head will be fine. You should really be wondering why the push rods bent. Over reving can cause this as well as running to much boost on stock springs. Did you check to see if the valves operated when you had the rocker arms off? If those valves contacted the piston then they might be bent. But if it is running fine then you might be okay.

The valves opened fine, I was able to use a pry bar and get them to open. Everything seemed smooth so I'm not sure why they bent. I put new pushrods in and it is running smooth like nothing happened. I just hope that metal made it past the cam, Ive got about 30 miles on it since and I have two big magnets on the oil pan.

By the way there is no chip in the truck, it is all stock. I was driving home from picking up a pizza and was just pulling out onto a main road when it went, accelerating but not getting on it by any means.
