It is the oil pump the supplies the engine with lubrication. If your oil pressure is lower than you want then maybe it needs to be replaced. It is not a performance upgrade.

Have one in the new motor... it runs about 25-30 at idle and 50 or so at 2000 RPM's...

It's worth it if you need a new pump. But no point in replacing it if your stock pump is fine. It is not an upgrade just an OEM replacement. That came straigt from Melling.
