Wifes Butt Cold!!!!! Need Heated Seat Xpert!

Well this may be an exaggeration to some extent. :hehe: Here is my sad story. Replaced my 2004 Lariat power bench seats with a set of 2002 Lariat heated captains chairs. I had the 2002 connectors which made wiring very easy. Everything works great EXCEPT: Push the heat button, the indicator light flashes once then nothing and no heat. Both seats do the same thing. All of the power adjustments work just fine. :dunno:

These seats have the solid state seat module under each seat. Could these be bad or have I wired something incorrectly? I tried to order a module through Tousley but their system does not recognize the part number (14C724). An internet search reveals that the heated seat modules are only available through salvage yards?? Does that mean all of the replacements that would have been made by Ford have been used up?

ANYONE HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH THESE SEATS? Many thanks in advance.

I thought you meant something else... sorry cant help you in that department:thumb: good luck
Thx AD2Liv, I had actually done several searches on the forums looking for guys with heated seat issues and reviewed this one previously. I found one guy, asked the question, but he has not responded yet (that was a couple of days ago, so decided to post my question today). I have been completely through the seats. Pulled the leather off the bottom and back (replaced with new leather on the drivers side). No burn marks, resistance measurements seem good. Pretty much at wits end. I don't think Ford uses this design anymore and now I can see why. May end up taking it to a dealer to check further. Ugh!

For those guys who find the hog rings a PITA, I can safely say, for replacement "Use hog ring pliers and NEW hog rings", they are the only way to go. It took less than an hour to put new leather on the seat and back. Planned on posting pictures but discouraged with this heater thing.

I know it was a cheap shot but sex always gets guys to look. :pointlaugh:
That was my heated seat thread. I couldn't tell that the wires were broken until I pulled the pad apart. I have heard that zip ties are the way to go putting the seats back together instead of hog rings.
Good luck!!
Thx HB,

I pulled they leather off and inspected the pads visually in addition to a ohm meter test. Everything looked/tested good. I have to think it is in the "control modules". Only thing I can't reliably test since they are solid state. Was even thinking of hard wiring to eliminate the control modules but have not gotten that brave yet.
The passenger seat heater works fine in my truck, which makes my wife happy. But the driver seat is a different matter: the light comes on when the button is pushed, but the seat never heats up. The majority of these posts mention either a light that flashes and goes off, or no light at all, so I'm thinking maybe this problem in my truck is different?

Thoughts?

thx

It sounds like you have a bad heating pad. Typically it is a seat pad that goes bad as it gets the most wear as you get in and out of the truck. You can do an ohm meter check after pulling the wires to the pad. Probably a two wire connector. Should be less than 5 ohms.
Thanks. I will check that out.

Ah man, not what I thought this was gonna be about.

Had some really great advice for you too.

The x-wife use to put her clammy buns on me in the middle of the night and wake me up.

So I sharpened my big toe nails and when she did it again I would rake one of my sharpened toe nails down her a$$.

Problem solved.
I took my seat apart and found a burnt mark on the heating element, peeled back the soft material and the wire is black and burnt, but not all the way through the wire is still complete. How do I soldier that, its still together.

Not sure if this can be soldered unless it is the lead going to the seat heater. If it is the "heating element" itself, this may be difficult to do. The heating element wire is "resistive" in nature, hence the ability to create heat. (Think of it as a water heater element) I do not know how warm the seat elements get. Cleaning the area to be soldered, applying flux and then soldier would work temporarily. I would be afraid that due to its heating though, this would soften the soldier and the joint would fail again.

Some of the other guys may have done this. I hope they can weigh in on the discussion. I finally gave up and took my truck to a mechanic a couple of weeks ago. (he still has it) Checking it out as a favor to me.
Almost 900 views and only 12 post... Provocative messaging sure does work! Next time I'm selling a part for my truck, I'll have my wife hold the part with a little cleavage showing :thumb:
OP, I'd see it as an excuse for a lap ride:hehe:
