My truck needs help. And Viagra won't fix a Ford 6.7 limp mode.
At 35,000 miles my 2011 6.7L 'check engine' light comes on. Runs fine. I was on highway so stopped at another dealer then bought from, they clear the code and say if comes back on might be problem with DEF equipment.., Nox.., DPF who knows, but had other trucks with similar problem so felt they could fix if happened again.
So the light comes back on about week later, along with limp mode, and light saying 'drive to clear exhaust' or something like that.
Now after searching internet I'm having no problem finding others with similar complaint.
I currently have a 6.0 in shop after oil cooler / EGR meltdown (well cared for and only 85,000 miles) and I've decided the aftermarket is where I need to focus to get this 6.0 back on the road...and dependable.
Planned to leave my 2011 6.7 stock because satisfied with power. But I'm now more concerned about the truck lasting, as I'm not confident Ford will take care of this 6.7 if problems are starting to develop ( i.e. - 6.0 fiasco)
so I'm wondering if doing all those time honored traditions of past motors should be done now - EGR delete / aftermarket exhaust (goodbye DPF/DEF) / tuner -if only for the sake of potentially saving the engine. Don't want a trash engine when hit 100,000 miles....and more important not left stranded in -10F, with a 14,000 trailer, on a mountain road. If my wife is running that truck when that happens it won't be the only limp mode around our place.
So what mods are others doing on the 6.7 and what are your results so far?
I Know I will void a warranty. But I'm beginning to think I can keep this truck on the road longer via the aftermarket.
