I have a stock 1996 f250 7.3. The glow plugs just went out of it and I am going to get them changed butttt the problem is my truck is blowing white smoke! If I let it sit and idle for a minute and get in and start to drive it will blow white smoke, also if I have a load on and start in 1st it blows white smoke and also when I shift down and press the pedal down it does it also.. I have been noticing bad fuel mpg and using a little oil.. I replaced the IPC sensor but it was replaced with an older one off a broke down truck so could that be the problem or is it the glow plugs? if anyone knows what is up with this please help,, thanks!

It has 276,000 miles... Could it be anything besides the injectors? It doesn't do it all the time and I don't see a loss in power when it does it.. The check engine light will come on when its cold and it won't blow a bit of white smoke but if I drive it and warm it up and shut it off (Like to fuel up) and start it back the light goes off and start blowing white smoke.. could it be the Injection Pressure Control sensor not working right? I don't really wanna have to replace and injector right now!!!! lease:

Or does it smell sweet? Like coolant.

Oil burns blue

Coolant burns white and smells sweet

To much fuel burns white with no ignition. burns your eyes

To much fuel that partially burns is black

Does the truck have a miss?

Hey sorry I havent been on because I have been busy.. But I don't know what it smells like because it only does it when I am driving, it looks like a blueish color.. I have the legendary 7.3 oil leak and I am wondering if that could be part of it or maybe a blow head gasket, but I doesn't act like I blew it..

Have you pulled the CCV and intake tube to see if you are just sucking oil from the block? Head gasket would be the last thing on my mind. These 7.3l head gaskets are wicked tough. You need to make 40 psi of boost to wiggle these heads.

It is normal that the older the engine gets the more blow-by it will have. Attached to the intake (pre-turbo) is the CCV (CrankCase Vent, AKA -> Doghouse). There is a metal "screen" in the doghouse that is supposed to catch the oil being tossed around by the motor and if your turbo is sucking enough air will pull the oil from the Valve cover into the intake of the engine. Simple fix is to turn the dog house around and use a rubber hose made for oil and route it down and back. Then plug/epoxy/delete the midpipe the the CCV was originally connected to.

Alright so I turn it around and were does the hose go? Do I run it down towards the ground or what?

You can run it to the ground but it kinda smells and hazes a bit. Some of us run it back along the frame to at least past the cab. I took mine all the way to the rear of the truck. Try and keep the hose flat so there is no buildup of water or oil vapor.
