Hello,

I am in the process of getting a new truck and I cannot decide which truck would be the best fit as of right now, so I was hoping to get a little help with this problem.

Here is a little bit about me to help yall help me with my decision. As of right now I have a 2005 4x4 f250 powerstroke with a 4" lift. I only put on about 15000 miles per year and I only tow my 30 ft. travel trailer 1 or twice per year. I cannot decide what would be better for me another diesel or v10 or v8.

Does any one have a 2008 V10 and if so how many miles to gallon are you getting? Same question for the V8? The same question for the diesel? The price diesel just went up again today to over $4.00.

The new truck I am wanting to get will also have a lift on it so that will also effect my mpg, does anyone know how much it will effect it on gas engines?

Thanks for the help,

so, you are going to keep your powerstroke and just use it a couple times a year? and your looking for a second vehicle to kick around in?

i would have to say get a small engine that gets great mpg! save gas and money. dont get a v-10! my friend gets around 9 with his v-10.

if you are ok to drive a fuel sucker, drive the hell out of your powerstroke! if you let that truck sit it will fall apart right there in your driveway! ive done it, they dont like to sit.

No i am going to trade my truck in for a new one. I just wanted to know if it is more feasable for me to get a gas or diesel truck. I was really wanting to find out how many miles to the gallon the gas engines were getting, I have been thinking about getting the 5.4 gas but I do not know how many mpg they are getting especially after I put on the bigger tires. I figured the cost yesterday between the V10 and the new diesel and the diesel came out better by 3 cents per mile but then today the price of diesel jumped up another 6 cents so now the v10 would seem to be better? but i do not have any information about the 5.4 to see if this the truck for me

:thumb: gottcha!

ive always been a ford man myself but i have heard great things about chevy when you are talking about GAS engines, i heard they are getting around 18mpg. (thats no a v-10 of course)

price of fuel is crazy! i paid over 4 a gallon here in utah, cost me 97 bucks to fill my powerstroke the other day.

camping trip planned in july. for the RV and fuel costs, i could almost take the car and stay in nice motels :hehe:

ps... if your sold on FORD only, id say stick with the diesel! if i were to go with a gas engine i hate to say it but id take a hard look at cheverolet. (hope my dad cant read this)

I have also thought about getting a chevy as well, I just was not sure what kind of mileage they were getting also? I do not like the way they look when they are not lifted but once they are lifted they look alot better?

Thats not towing guys. If your going to tow with the little chevy v8 you'll kill it!! The big chevy v8 (8.1L w/allison) gets about 11mpg empty, 7 loaded/towing. I know this for a fact guys. A coworker just gave me $300 to tow his rv to the campsite downstate he keeps it at. He swears he was better off to pay me to do it..lol So I did it.

they all look better lifted. one thing i dont like about chevy is how you can see the frame under the body from the side.

the chevy ride is awesome. my boss has an 07 lifted with 33" tires. its very good looking, he says he gets around 17.

james has a good point. really depends on the load your going to put on it.

I dont think you will be happy steppin down from a diesel truck to a gasser. If you only put on 15k a year I would probably stick with the 05 that you have now but I understand just wanting something new. If you can afford it I would get the 08 it is more money and fuel is more expensive but I just feel like owning a 3/4 ton truck and having a diesel before steppin down to a gas job would not make you happy.

Does he have the 6.0 gas in his chevy. I have a friend that has one and his mileage sucks. I think he told me around 12 or less. I hear some people say the chevy 6.0 gas does pretty good and some say it drinks the gas.

Talking milage only, get a half ton chevy. Or 5.4 150 if you want ford. Or just not get a truck and use the truck to tow every once in a while.

I have to have a truck, I was thinking about a 1/2 ton, but you never know I might have to tow more often and the 1/2 ton would probally not be too good with the travel trailer.
