Ok so when I bought my truck it had a K&N air intake on it. I want to get rid of it before it tears up my turbo. So now I am in the market for a new intake I've done some research and see that S&B and AFE are what most everyone recommends. Anyone have opinions, though I dont want "well I've heard...blah blah" :punish2: If you are running a certain intake and like it or dont let me know and why. Vendors, feel free to post I need to find somewhere to buy it. :thumb:

I have a stock intake I could sell you, and I also have an AFE Stage One w/ Pro Guard filter I could sell you as well.

Maybe a dumb question, How would an air intake mess the turbo up? freer flowing air would be better IMO.

Less filtration.
What he said^^^^^^^^

You have a compressor wheel spinning at ungodly speed getting pelted with dust particles will destroy the wheel.

Dirt and debris from the trade off of filtration vs. flow. Even small dust at the rate its inducted and the rpm of the wheel will cause the leading edge of the turbo wheel to erode away. Its throws the wheel out of balance, and takes the rest of the turbo from there. The dirt then goes into the valves and pistons and starts wrecking havoc there.

For the OP, look at ebay/craigslist/classifieds/junk yards and find a stock unit to put back on. You can't beat the filtration and piece of mind from the stock unit. That's what I'm running, and what I intend to keep running even after I've upgraded the turbo and injectors on my truck.

Yeah I've heard that the stock intake is a great unit. But is it going to quiet down my turbo at all? I really love that whistle. And would there be any advantage to running this intake S&B 6.0L Intake over a stock one? I definitely want to lose the K&N, i'm just trying to find out as much as possible before i waste money on an aftermarket unit if a stock one is just as good. If anyone has ran both please let me know the difference if any. Thanks!

I have ran the AFE Stage One and Two, as well as the stock intake. I have noticed a tiny bit more whistle (hardly noticeable, and I do have an '03 turbo) with the AFE's. Like I said, I can sell you either one of mine for a good deal, as I have three intakes at my house (AFE Stage One, Stage Two, and stock intake).

The S&B would be about the only intake I'd be looking at in the realm of after market. I've not heard about any major design issues with that intake.

I've ran the stock,K&N, and S&B. The stock does quiet the turbo down on the compressor side, but the turbine side (exhaust side) is where alot of the whistle is produced. The K&N and S&B sound the same on the compressor side. I wish I would of kept my stocker, if/when my current turbo takes a dump and I switch to a Powermax, then I'll be getting the stock one back on.

Shipping will be pretty pricey, but I'll do $175 shipped for both. :thumb:
