HPOP pumps engine oil from ~50 psi to 500-3,000 psi and sends it to the injectors where they use it to fire fuel into the engine at very high pressures. Powerstroke do NOT have injector pumps to pressurize the fuel like normal diesels, they have the high pressure oil system and the fancy injectors that cost 10 times as much.

Alabamafrog is basically right. The high pressure pump takes base oil pressure, thats at about 50 psi and raises it to between 500 to 3500 psi to run the injectors. the high pressure oil is basically used to help open the injectors instead of high pressure fuel. power stroke fuel pressure runs about 55 psi.:icon_ford:

Some bigger injectors use more oil volume which can cause the factory pump to loose pressure because it can’t keep up. You can add big oil to any Powerstroke but it is only really needed if you have pressure problems with big injectors. My injectors are relatively small but I could tell a real difference in just going from the 15* to the 17*, I’d bet it will be a big difference whenever I go to dual pumps
