What did you do to your 7.3 Today?

Well I know the 6.4 guys have a thread like this but I've never seen one for us 7.3 guys, so I figured I would start one.

So like the title says what did you do to you 7.3 today? Maintenance, performance, washed the windows, whatever.

I tested the coolant and found that it was in need of a DCA additive in the coolant. So I went to the truck stop and got a pint of DCA and a 5" band clamp. Put about half the pint in the resivor and I'll see if its any better tomorow. As far as the band clamp goes, I finally got around to fixing my tip that was held on with 3 tack welds and got a good clean clamp on it.

So what did yall do?

I replaced the two 13 year old DieHard Platinum P2 batteries with two new Odyssey 65-PC1750T Extreme Series AGM Batteries. Even though the DieHards were aging, they have only accumulated 5866 miles in those 13 years. I suspect they were still pretty healthy batteries, they cranked the 7.3 just fine, but still 13 years is a long time. Sold the old pair for $50 bucks.

Been a minute since I posted an update to my old rig, but I had the axles regeared to 4:10, and a Detroit Trutrac installed in the rear. It's so much better to drive/tow with 33" tires. It accelerates so much better when putting my foot in it at 55mph. Before it would lug and smoke too much.

Installed carpet today to get rid of the factory vinyl flooring, installed new speakers in the rear. Tomorrow I'll finish the carpet install and remove the door panels and replace the door lock actuators and install new speakers in the door. The passenger door has no speaker at all.

I also installed a atoto 10 inch sterio with wireless android auto and it works great and was cheap. That was a while ago.

But the bullet a while ago and installed a gooseneck hitch for a semi rated for 35000 lbs.

The smaller version goes in the dash pretty nicely too!

I did this a couple of years back.

I've been looking for a long time to get a new stereo unit. Which model specifically did you get? My old single disc Alpine has seen better days.

Here's where I first saw it ->

He really butchered his in (I like his channel, this wasn't his best moment though ;) )

I forget where the trim ring came from, it really does give it that professional look, might have just been a Generic din kinda thing...

I ordered the Upgraded Transmission cooler from Corey
truck has sat for a few weeks since my other winter rig is more balanced weight wise for winter around town. Started the ole girl up, cleaned the foot of snow off and grabbed pellets for the smoker, bunch of random shop junk, and wasted diesel for the sake of keeping the batterie's good.

I am about to do a timing belt on a subaru though haha. Looked really simple actually, more than I thought.

Moved it down in front of the machine shed in case I need to plug it in. Did that before the bottom fell off the thermometer. 42° when I went to bed Thurs and -1° when I got up. Actually got up to 4° today, maybe 12° tomorrow, t-shirt weather. Lol
Merry Christmas everyone

Thanks. I suppose it's worth a little plug to them. It's lonestarseatcovers, find them at ebay. Extremely fast fab and ship time. They really go the extra mile. And the project fits and looks great. Can't say enough good things about that experience.
Buy once, cry once.... other than the upcoming cost of the HPOP and hoses when they're back in stock lol

Not really "today" but more like the last week while babysitting the new kiddo.

Any suggestions for a first time 7.3 owner? 2001 F350 dually farm rig with 247k. Not really looking for performance to the point of daily drivability issues, but more OEM parts that can be replaced with better or upgraded parts.

2 days ago, had to replace the batteries.
that is when I discovered that the driver side plastic crap over the battery, is actually part of the OEM fresh air duct @#$%

pulled that crap off, and discovered the spring clips that won't hold the filter cover down, is because the case is broken #$%^

That made me think about the "foolish money I wasted" last August, buying the S&B cold air kit.
Well, it ain't so foolish now, it will fix ALL of those problems.

Leaving the battery accessible without taking half of the plastic off the engine,
and provide a good solid cover to hold the filter intact.

and it just pleases my Ego...

I have a box of "foolish" addons to install when it gets warm again.

It was a week ago, but I put the plow on and cleaned up the parking lot.

I have been helping my son get his 7.3 all back together.

Took it down town to look for a job. Then hung out in front of the drug store.
Peeked out the window, where she is sleeping,
nah, too damn cold to go outside
Lost 1&2 on the ZF6. Guess I'll be dropping a trans in a few days. Pretty sure it's the shift fork, but anything that needs attention is going to get it. Man, I don't want to have to rebuild this whole darn thing.
