Very glad to have gotten rid of that thing. Just need to clean up where the access panel meets the step, and set up my appointment to get the truck Line-X'd!

If anyone has any other ideas for filling the gap from the metal access panel to the step, I'm all ears

Just get a good access panel from a 08 tailgate without a step and it will fit better.

Portcity, any chance you have a part number for the 08 access panel? I thought they were the same from '99+!

I posted last night, but it didnt show up. Your missing a piece of plastic trim that goes there, and your access panel has been beaten flat. I dont have a pic of the trim but the panel should look like this. Also I think the panel is the same 99-13 super duty and 97-04 f150, but im not 100%

You don't appear to have the step - I do. Looking at yours, I may measure out the distance and simply bend the metal (off the truck) to remove that gap.

No mine dosnt have the step (pointless on a lowered truck) but the dimensions of the tail gate are the same. Trucks with a step have three pieces of plastic trim (you're missing the center one) trucks without the step have one piece plastic.
