I've got a 97 F250 that has the classic symptoms of a failing vacuum pump. 5 to 10 in. hg. max with the line to the vacuum booster plugged. With the vacuum booster included I only get 5 in. hg. max and then it all goes away when the brake pedal is applied, otherwise with the vac. booster line plugged the system will hold vacuum. So, am I looking at replacing both?

Also, anybody replace their vac pump without buying special Ford tools? Thanks!!

you need puller and installer for the pulley, should be a 10mm bolt. I would recommend a 6pt box wrench during removal to keep from rounding off bolt.

Thanks txevt! Is that the special Ford puller and installer or will a typical puller and press work?
