Well, I lost a set of keys and i'm going to have to get a new set of keys for my 99 F350 7.3 but I was wondering if anyone here has ever upgraded to a newer style fob? I like the new style ones and wonder if they work? Or am I pretty much just stuck with the ugly square?

Something like:

But honestly I was wondering if it was just even possible in the first place? It doesn't really matter what key fob it is I was more curious to know if anyone has done it?

the FCC # being the same would give a glimmer of hope that this 21st century remote would work with your 20th century trucks brain
but I am sure thats not the case

IMO the best someone could do is hack in the old controller's electronics into the new style fob

The 80 bit encryption keys should be completely backwards compatible with the 40 bit keys used on the earlier SuperDuty's
I've never tried so I don't know if the bulkier key fits in the ignition cylinder wings or not

@voodooridr I'm looking more towards just a newer style fob, not necessarily the key, it would just be a bonus if the key fit. So the lock, unlock, and alarm buttons would work though if I tried to program it to my truck?

I BOUGHT A NEW STYLE "ALL IN ONE" KEY THAT WAS MADE TO BE PROGRAMED FOR MY 2001 TRUCK.....AND THE REMOTE ENTRY WORKED JUST FINE.....

HOWEVER.....THE KEY WOULD NOT FIT PAST THE IGNITION SWITCH LOCK SLOT.....THE SLOT IS TOO NARROW TO LET THE BODY OF THE FOB COME INTO IT.....

I COULD HAVE REMOVED THE SLOT (EARS) FROM THE SWITCH AND USED THE ALL IN ONE KEY.....BUT I DECIDED NOT TO.....SINCE I NEVER CUT THE KEY.....I WILL USE IT ON ANOTHER FORD.....

I WOULD CHECK THE PROGRAMMING PROCEEDURE AND SEE IF IT IS THE SAME BEFORE BUYING A NEW KEY.....

HERE IS A COUPLE OF PHOTOS OF WHAT I BOUGHT.....

@GETFURIOUS that is pretty cool! That would beat the system of trying to use the actual FOB its-self since i'm technically using the same FOB.

@ZMANN I looked up a few of these keys and i'm having a hard time trying to figure out how the FCC thing works and what not, i'm guessing there is a website that should just tell you all this stuff but I gotta do some more looking to see. Unless you know a good website lol. but thats definitely what i'm seeing is that all the newer FOBs are definitely different

I like the look of the new one, but I sometimes leave the truck running with the doors locked. Its nice to have keyless for that scenario but I suppose one could just use a key to unlock your door in that scenario.

Well, I don't really know. If the keys are from 2021, but the car is from 2020, how can it work properly? And if it can, for how long it would work? Honestly, I don't recommend using anything else for your car that didn't come with it. My friend tried to use a similar car key, which got stuck in the ignition. We had then to look for "Solutions for ignition key stuck" to get it out. We tried putting the car in the parking and even rotating the wheel left to right and vice-versa. It didn't work. We took it to car service, and they cared for it. So I'm not really
