Bill, you're in the same boat I'm in. And you seem to have roughly the same plan. Replace or clean all your filters and fluids. If you're coolant isn't right (SCA precharged) flush and replace. You want that block ICE cold if you can get it there. If you're fuel filter's gunked up, you EBPV is gunked up, or any other number of issues aren't running right, you're going to be slighting yourself of MPGs.
After that, you want to have gauges (Exhaust Gas Temp, Tranny Temp, and Turbo Boost) so you can monitor the truck when you have your chip in. I'm personally going with a Tony Wildman other people will tell you PHP, Beans, whatever. As long as it's a custom tune for your truck and motor.
In my opinion upping your turbo and injectors will do the opposite of MPGs, but I may be wrong on that. That's what a little birdie told me, and that birdie may be wrong. Guys here will definitely correct me if I'm wrong in believing that.
I may jack your thread a bit here, but I've heard (similar birdie) that the way to go is water-meth injection and that propane may also be a viable solution for more MPGs. I'm meeting with a guy next weekend who REPORTEDLY is getting 32 mpg average. This I gotta see and I gotta get some ideas. One of my long term goals - 5 speed automatic transmission, but that's some serious cash.
