Ok Guys, I'm fairly new to the Diesel world. Here is what i have. it's a 03 quad cab, long bed dually, 2wd, Automatic 7.3
I have already changed to the tymar and a Diamond Eye 4" exhaust.
What is the next step that i need to take. this is a daily drive, i want better MPG, but more power. i don't tow or haul anything but i have it just in case.
i know i want to add a chip, but am considering either a WW/turbo upgrade (38r), injectors, and a HPOP.
I don't want to loose the reliabilty factor, but i like to have fun also.
So what would you guys recomend, and what steps should they be done in. As far as Budget, don't really have one. If it's worth it, it will just take longer for me to save up to get it.

Thanks guy

Bill, you're in the same boat I'm in. And you seem to have roughly the same plan. Replace or clean all your filters and fluids. If you're coolant isn't right (SCA precharged) flush and replace. You want that block ICE cold if you can get it there. If you're fuel filter's gunked up, you EBPV is gunked up, or any other number of issues aren't running right, you're going to be slighting yourself of MPGs.

After that, you want to have gauges (Exhaust Gas Temp, Tranny Temp, and Turbo Boost) so you can monitor the truck when you have your chip in. I'm personally going with a Tony Wildman other people will tell you PHP, Beans, whatever. As long as it's a custom tune for your truck and motor.

In my opinion upping your turbo and injectors will do the opposite of MPGs, but I may be wrong on that. That's what a little birdie told me, and that birdie may be wrong. Guys here will definitely correct me if I'm wrong in believing that.

I may jack your thread a bit here, but I've heard (similar birdie) that the way to go is water-meth injection and that propane may also be a viable solution for more MPGs. I'm meeting with a guy next weekend who REPORTEDLY is getting 32 mpg average. This I gotta see and I gotta get some ideas. One of my long term goals - 5 speed automatic transmission, but that's some serious cash.

So you dont pull with it and just have the truck just 'cause? Whats your hp/tq you'd like to reach? Keep in mind building something for performance and building to tow/farm duty are often different things.

A ww wont do anything unless you have surge. A 38r wont do anything unless you have some fuel. An hpop wont do anything unless you have fuel and air.

Bigger injectors/turbo means a more efficient motor which means better mpg when your foots not in it.

In a 2003 truck, you're going to have powder metal connecting rods, which is going to limit you to about 400rwhp. I'd suggest starting with a set of gauges, or at least a pyrometer gauge, and some custom tuning. Tuner, intake and exhaust will get you up to the 300-320rwhp range. See how you like it at that point and go from there...some Stage Ones, 38R and T500 HPOP can make a great daily driver combination.
