Couldn't find an answer anywhere so here goes:

My up pipes are blowing soot and screaming like tom cats in a blender!

Im ordering a set of bellowed IH next week.

My question is, what problems do they cause when they leak this bad?
I know high egts but anything else?

Power loss? Low boost? Could they cause an engine shudder similiar to a clogged ebpv tube?

I went and looked at a 97 with bad up pipes.

He said it was down on power and it seemed pretty gutless.

Your going to get power loss and low boost cus not all of the exhaust gas is entering the turbo.

I have a related question I have been wondering about.

Will the EGT's drop if the up pipes where heat wrapped?

Would be the perfect time to do it sense you have them off..

they make ceramic coated up pipes, don't know how much they help.

leaking up pipes just make the truck gutless. low boost, high egts, turbo is inefficient.

Ok. Well, it certainly is gutless! A 20ft dual axle with a qut Bobcat should not bog down this truck... if it does, then im selling and getting a cummins lol

haha ya you will be amazed at the power once you dont have any boost leaks.

then a chip just really wakes the truck up.

i also saw bd diesel just came out with up pipes.
they are a little cheaper than the int'l ones
i like my int'l ones but bd makes good stuff too.

The lower priced bd diesel ones are Dorman products....I have heard people don't like them because they have dirty threads, bolts, are to long and sine issues with fitament. Id order the IH ones for the later 99 trucks.

I have bar none diesel custom up pipes. Meant that they build their own. I noticed a huge increase in low end spool and top end power. Mid range picked up a ton too. Makes me enjoy my truck Again.

High heat and wear on the pipes where the donut gaskets go is what makes them leak.

If you sled pull any, then your egt's get hot enough to destroy the donut gaskets. I had mine redone with new pipes, flanges, and gaskets and they leaked on the third pull I did.

ouch are bd's up pipes really repackaged dormans?

thats ridiculous if its true.

dorman up pipes suck, they usually never work right out of the box.

Why dose bar none want your old up pipes for cores?

And on what planet are the cores worth over $275?

Looks to me like they just put bellows on your stock up pipes and give you a gasket lol

But as mentioned the up pipes see a lot of heat witch burns up the gaskets/donuts, so wouldn't heat wrapping them keep them cool plus lower the EGT's?

The heat still goes through them. It might help the transfer into the turbo, but it's not going to help the donut gaskets
