I know that diesels use some oil by nature but what's normal? For example in the last 2000 miles my truck used about 1/8" on the dipstick crosshatch, and that was nonstop heavy towing with the hammer down 75-80 mph. About normal?

yes, totally normal man. nbd. that equates to like a 1/16th of a quart.
