This is my first turbo diesel, I drove an 7.3 normally asperated for 550000 miles. Can some one tell me if it is normal for a turbo to seem like it is not wanting to spoole down when the truck shifts into O.D. When this happens the egt's rise extremely fast unless I get off the throttle and let the turbo catch up. Is this normal?

When it shifts into O/D what does the tach gauge do. Does it go up or does it drop. I ask because if your egt's are going up and your rpms are going down then you have an engine problem. When the trans shifts into O/D and your rpms go up with your egt's then you have a trans problem.

550,000 miles? or 55,000 miles?

EGTs will rise if you lug the motor in O/D, but will generally peak and fall as the boost catches up.
