True story, no B.S., I was there...Bought my first diesel 10 days ago. 2002 7.3 litre. You can imagine how proud I am. Anyway, 10 days later, I hear a rattle, know I've been lacking some power, seemed to me that the engine was starving for air. Discovered the v band clamp from the turbo to the exhaust down pipe was loose. Not only loose, but missing the T bolt and nut. So, down I go to my local ford dealership and fork over $37.00 in hard earned american cash for a new clamp. Since I have yet to purchase a factory manual for my new prize I take the time to inquire from a "technician" what the proper torque for the nut on the clamp is. His educated reply was "I dunno" I told him I thought this was important so that I wouldn't experience this difficulty again. His retort, "I just tighten em down, but not to hard, ya don't want to break em".
I've tried to have some fun with this story. I'm just a regular guy. While I do understand shade tree wrenching, I'm a mechanic on Apache helicopters and we work to specific torques. Can anyone tell me what the torque is for the v band clamp nut is? I already have intentions on placing lockwire on the assembly after torque so I don't loose the thing again. Thanks, I've been dreaming of this purchase for a long time. Coot

17. Install downpipe. Guide the v-band flange to mate with
the turbine discharge flange. Install v-band clamp & torque
to 110-130 lb-in.

And welcome to the org.
