I have an Edge Racing Tuner on my truck and I was wondering if I can unplug the tuner and drive. Texas passed the visual emission check, everything has to be installed as factory stock when they look at the truck for inspection. No testing for now, also no tuners installed. This starts 2015, in counties that have emission testing. I'm gonna gut the DPF and reinstall it. I just want to unplug the tuner for inspection.

Where did you see a law that says diesels get a visual inspection? The only proposed law concerning emissions and diesels is sb 1350 and it has been in limbo since May of 2013

My boss told me, his son is an ASE mechanic and he showed me the report that is coming to all shops that inspect vehicles. Starting in 2015. I've been trying to find it online myself but don't know where it is. He just showed me last week. He told me its visual only, nothing emission can be changed.

Yes, you can unplug the tuner and drive it like that. A tune is literally a computer file, so once it's uploaded to the truck, it will stay there until you reflash it back to stock or swap tunes.

Obviously would need to have it plugged in to run your guages and whatnot but far as tuning wise, once the tune is loaded on the truck, doesn't need to stay plugged in for it to work.

That's good to know about the tuner, I was miss informed about the inspection, It hasn't passed yet. They are going to vote on it this year and try to make it start in 2015. Sorry about the bad info, I'll make sure I get it right next time.

So if I want to do a delete and turn off regen, I just need to know someone with a tuner and they can do it?
