I have a 2012 F-250 6.7. I have the basic superchips programmer set at performance. I set it at 2000 miles and have 5000 miles on the truck now. There have been two different times that I have been cruising down the interstate and stomped the gas. My truck will accelerate and then all of a sudden feels like it downshifts real hard and my truck shuts off. I have had to pull off the side of the interstate, turn my key off, and then start my truck back up. It always cranks up fine then. I have had no other issues with the truck at this point. I am not a big fan of the superchips. I ultimately want to buy an H&S MM and do the deletes. I personally asked my service manager about doing it thinking he would overlook the warantee issue as much as possible. We have about 40 fleet trucks that we service there on a regular basis. He told me there is no way to overlook it anymore because of how strict Ford has become when it comes to warantee work. Anyways, is the problem I am having superchips related? I figured I could get away with just running a tuner and setting it back to stock before ever taking it in. If they happen to notice I have been running a tuner, I have heard from others that this dealership will normally just tell you not to run it anymore the first time they notice it.

Its hard to really know, but I would think its tuner related. I would remove it before you do any serious damage to the motor. Your probably one of the very few on the forum that went with superchips. Most run H&S / Spartan and 99% of these owners are very happy with their purchase. Just curious, why did you choose superchips over H&S/Spartan?

thats a good question. i am now asking myself the same thing. i have ran superchips on 2 other diesels in the past and not had any issues. my brother runs a h&s mm on his duramax runnin 40s with all the deletes and has not had a bit of trouble out of it in 35k miles. i will most likely be buying the h&s. i wonder if the local diesel shop where i purchased the tuner would let me return it if i told them the problems i am having. i also do not like the way the truck shifts at all with the tuner. I have learned how to drive it without it doing anything stupid. i have turned it back to stock several times and witnessed no problems with the truck shutting down or tranny acting funny.

Just a question for you Ford#2oil - Have you contacted Superchips to see if they've heard of it and possibly have a solution?

OTOH, If you plan on going with the MM, might not be worth the time.

Just a thought.

Sounds like torque trunction to me. A real tuner won't do that.

Yea those things are junk. I've had friends that have had issues with those as well. I'd use it to hammer some nails or just throw it on the burn pile. It's more useful that way. Never skimp on tuners. Do your research and find out what is the most reputable safe tuner for you truck brand and go with that. If you don't spend the big buck for a good one don't tune it at all. Just my .02 from my lessons learned the hard way.

I have use Superchips in my last three trucks with no problem. I have the new programer for my 2011 F250 but I have not use it yet. I alway wait for a few updates first to make sure the bugs are gone. Superchips and Edge are both owned by PowerTeq a MSD company That said when you buy a Superchips programer your getting the Edge / Superchips program. The numbers for both are the same. So if the program is causing problems its doing it for the Edge as well and there probably working on it. But I would call and let them know whats going on.

Sounds a lot like the problems I had with the Bully Dog GT I had on mine. Would shut down when it was doing a regen. Was totally tuner related! Get your tuner off of it and run it to see. Like others I fully agree with the Superchips tuner being the root of your problem.

Yea I don't doubt you had no problem with other vehicles. They are all different and respond different to some tuners. That being said Edge and Superchips might be the same program but they are still junk. On this truck all my reading is pointing to H&S or spartan. I'd look them up. And do some reading. I have had 2 friends that used the Superchips tuner have problems. They were both LBZ Duramax trucks so they don't relate directly to the 6.7 but just my experience with them.

100% if your doing deletes H&S, Spartan are the kings. But if you are going to keep the EGR, SCR, DPF. Edge and Superchips make a good choice. Edge and Superchips spend their time tuning stock trucks. In the next few months the Superchips tuner will be California carb legal for the 2011-12 F250-350 just like all past years. If you don't live in California that means that you can run the tune in California and it's completely smog legal, that's huge. If I didn't live in California, someplace like Texas I might delete my truck and run H&S or Spartin as well.

Apples to oranges, but for the sake of argument, I'll post my experience with SC as a company. I bought a chip for my 00 Mustang GT that eventually started shutting my car down while driving it, literally cutting power to everything with no warning. Happened twice. The third time it cost me a speeding ticket because the speedo did not work. Cop was cool about it, explained the situation, he saw the computer laying on the passenger floor and let me off with a smaller, no-point fine. SC had the chip for weeks an never did anything, never called to update me or anything. Called them, got a refund for the chip and never looked back. Their stuff sucks, period.

In 2000 most people had trouble with all the chips. The biggest reason was that the PCB connecter was a very weak link. Is was not put on the ECU for a full time connection and most people did not do a good job of cleaning the conformal coating off the contacts. And if the contacts vibrated a little the signal would get interrupted and crash the ECU. Back then I helped a lot of people get the contact edge clean enough that they would not have this interruption.
For my story with Superchips. I had a 1855 programmer and was told that for the 2011 they would have a flash available for it. When they announced that they had a new 1858 programmer for the 2011 I gave them a call and they replaced it with a brand-new one. And back in the day when I ran an actual chip I could send it to them and get next day turn around on the new firmware flash.
I still say that Edge and Superchips makes a good choice if you're not going to do any deletes on your truck.

I am currently running a superchips. I got the truck brand new and didn't want to bite the bullet with a delete right away so I didn't get the H&S. The superchips was the only tuner my dealership would stand behind and I couldn't just leave the truck alone!
I did notice an improvement in performance and towing modes. Performance makes the truck a little more responsive. I was pleased with the small amount of money it cost. I still only have 8k miles on the truck and I am going to go ahead and bite the bullet and do the delete just because I WANT MORE. But I would give superchips a thumbs up for the money.
Now its time for H&S to take over. Might sell the Superchips if my brother in law doesn't want it.

Mine is a 2012 King Ranch. Exactly the same problem with Superchips. It suddently shuts off when passing sometimes. But you don't need to wait until it stops on highway side and restart the engine. When it happens running at highway speed (80 mph for example), when it shuts off, immediately you just turn off and on again the ignition switch key within a second or less, and it restart again and continues running. I call Superchips for that, and they told me that's very rare, that I'm the first and only customer with that problem. I updated the Superchips and still the same problem. It never happened with stock. Now I'll tell them there're more problems like this with their product. It's very dangerous when you are passing on a 2 way highway and you are approaching the vehicle that's coming the opposite lane towards you. If they don't fix that, or they don't understand or don't know their supposed job, I'll demand a refund.

And yes, I returned to Summit Racing for an exchange for the Banks Power Automind Programmer, and exactly the same issues than Superchips. The programmers, both, looks identical, and very similar program codes. I can swear both are the same thing, just different stickers or brand on tuner and packaging box. 2 weeks ago I sent an email to tech dept. at Banks Power, and any reply or response, an evidence they don't know about diesel performance and like accepting, with their silence, their product is a piece of ****. I just ordered H&S Mini Maxx, as a last option.

I've run SC Cortec in my 6.0 with no bad results, for a can tune it was pretty darn good, When I did the injectors and such I went with SCT and Loonie WILD. I was using Edge Evolution CTS for gauges Now that I have a 6.7 (love it) I have noticed that the Edge will work on a stock no deletes 6.7. I didn't know that the Edge & SuperChips were basically the same tuners. I was gonna try and use it to see if I could get any better fuel MPG. But if its gonna hurt my motor then I guess I'll run stock til that day I wanna play. Right now it just feels good not always waiting for something else to break.:ford. hnoes::
