Just installed the Transtar transmission cooler. I installed it so the stock cooler can be used along with the Transtar. The directions were somewhat vague and generalized. I didn’t use any of the hardware that came with the cooler, although it may work for a different application.

The hardware I used in place :
(2) ½” to 3/8” pipe reducer
(2) ½” pipe thread with ½” barb fitting
(2) 3/8” pipe thread with 3/8” barb fitting
Approximately 6’ of ½” rubber tubing (I used 250 psi tubing)
Approximately 10’ of 3/8” rubber tubing (again 250 psi)
(8) hose claps
Wire conduit covering
I fabbed up 2 brackets to mount the cooler behind the grille
Used the a reducer and one of each barb fitting to make 2 sets

First I removed the grille and mounted the 2 brackets on the 2 fiberglass framing that run up and down, they are about 18 ½” apart. Then I mounted the cooler to the brackets.

Next I installed about 5’ of the 3/8” tubing to each of the fittings on the cooler and covered the tubing in the wire conduit covering.

Then I routed both tubes down along the radiator, but hugging the bumper, you need to be careful not to bend the fins of the radiator. In the bumper there is an opening where you can see the return line of the factory cooler going back between the rubber flaps, I routed the 2 additional hoses thru this same opening.

To find the line that needs to be tied into, look under the passenger side just behind the radiator. You will see 2 lines going into the transmission oil filter and 2 lines coming out. Look at the line that is closest to the driver side and towards the front, this is the outlet to the oem cooler, this is the line I tapped. Disconnect the rubber line from the fitting(I had to cut about ½” off to get it off cause there’s not a lot of hand room. But don’t cut too much off you’ll need that hose.) The amount of transmission fluid that comes out when this joint is disconnected is very limited, I'd say 1 or 2 drops.

On the barb fitting that is coming off of the filter attach a section of the ½” tubing with a hose clamp. On the hose side that was just disconnected install the ½” side of the fitting that was made earlier. On the 3/8” side attach the hose that is running from the transtar cooler. Loop the excess around the filter and zip tie it to the available wires(looks like maybe some main power wires). Make sure the bends aren’t too sharp that they limit the flow , they should have a nice smooth curve with no hard angled bends.

Next connect the ½” hose that was connected to the filter to the other fitting that was built earlier(some tubing may need to be cut to fit), then fit the 3/8” tubing to the other side, again some may need to be cut to fit. Make sure all hoses are free from moving parts and aren’t going to rub against anything causing a leak.

The install didn’t take long at all, figuring out how to connect everything took the longest. The cooler is hardly noticeable it comes painted flat black but I shot it a couple more times when I painted the brackets. The distance between the cooler and the radiator is about 6” so the radiator will still get plenty of flow. If you have any questions shoot me a pm, I’ll be more than happy to help you .
