Transmission temp sensor issues

1254 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  ZMANN
So the backstory, truck is flashing tow haul , temp sensor dipped to zero/ cold once fluid is warm. Initially temp starts to climb on gauge, then falls and tow haul flashes. I’m getting P700- TCM fault, P710 Trans Temp Circut and P713 trans temp circuit high limit.
The general consensus is to replace the sensor by dropping the pan. I was told to possible replace the wiring as well, is that doable or is it integrated into the valve body?
I am looked quick n see the trans temp sensor has a p/n of 3C3Z-7H141-AA TFT ? Is this still accurate? It didn’t resemble a typical sensor so wanted to make sure.

Hello,

According to the repair information I have, the harness can be serviced separately without having to replace the valve body (though, you do need to remove the valve body to access the harness). For some reason, the repair database I have doesn't list the OEM part number for the sensor, but according to a quick internet search, the part number should be BC3Z-7H141-A .

Just a tip from my ramblings below. My TFT sensor went out back in August. I only had the P0713 code though...

For the little "ramp" I mentioned, here's a visual I found on another site:

About HERE is where it should pop out with tons of fluid for your brain cavity :D LOL

Well, got the TFT sensor replaced and the trans fluid/filters changed out.

To anyone reading this and having to change that sensor. I've read where people said to rotate the sensor 90° counter clockwise, then pull the sensor to get it out because of it's "T" shaped end. You don't rotate it that much. You only have to rotate it ~45° counter clockwise and then the sensor will free up. You'll know when it's ready to come out when the little tang on the sensor (the tang that locks into place in the divet during installation) clears the "ramp" (I should have taken a pic, but didn't...). And I used the same small screwdriver to lift up on that tang to unlock the sensor so I could start to turn it that I used to unlock the harness connector from the sensor.

Anywho...FYI about stuff I learned in the last few hours LOL 😆

Thanks guys, I ended up buying the temp sensor from Ford

Then I decided o should do my glow plugs snd broke all 4 plastic on the driver side. … spent 5 hours trying to get the 1st one out and nowwaiting for them to soak in PB….
I tho k I’m just gonna try a new sensor n leave the wires for later. The truck is a paperweight till I get the glow plugs out…. So have time to look into the wiring.
