My truck is an 03 cc drw auto with 150K on it. I pull 20K lbs almost constantly for business. For anyone in the know.. is it better to keep the converter locked in OD as much as possible while pulling through the mountains or is it better to let it downshift...what seems to be constantly... and letting the converter unlock.
Basically, I can keep the truck from downshifting most times by just modulating the throttle uphill. Speed falls a bit, but the trans holds OD and keeps the converter locked. Is this good practice for a long living trans or is this something that will have ill effects?
with the cruise set in the mountains it just gear hunts and locks and unlocks the converter constantly. kills mpg and I cant see it being good for the trans.
Anyone got any ideas? PS.. truck is stock

I put mine in Tow/Haul and run it. I don't leave it on cruise while going through the mountains or up hills. Your Torqshift should give you plenty of life.
