last weekend was pulling a 7000 lbs boat down the highway and at 55mph it wouldnt accelerate anymore. wrench light came on so i pulled over and shut it off. underneath there was a small amount of tranny fluid on the ground. waited 15 minutes started back up and pulled it home under 55. any ideas of what went wrong. wrench light is off now and it runs fine but am sceptical to pull until i diagnose what went wrong.

Need some info on your truck first. What year, engine, and trans type (auto / manual)?

Did you ever figure out what it was? Mine did the same thing last weekend. My first highway tow with my rig.

I want to do another 200 mile tow this week coming up, not sure if I should?

It didnt happen again after that however i still wanted to figure out what it was. I got a variety of possibilities. I talked to one diesel mechanic at work and he said to try and get the tranny flushed and see if it improves and another said it could be my torque converter. I had them check it out and neither seemed to be the problem. I have been keeping a close eye on it though. Havent had any problems since. I hooked up a diagnostic when the light came on but never showed a code. Let me know if any of those possibilities cure the problem for you.

Watch your tranny temp, oil temp and coolant temp. Those are the likely scenarios that would cause a defuel situation.

Changed the tranny fluid and filters.
The front filter was FILTHY!
Could not get the "limp mode" to kick in tonite, 95mph uphill.
I'm gonna hook up my 5th. wheel tomorrow and push the crap out of it.
Wish me luck!

Where the PCM pulls fuel back in order to bring those temperatures back down to "normal". 235* for coolant, 253* for oil.

I'm assuming you are going to pull the turbo and clean the unison ring... That's not too difficult. :D The biggest pain is getting it realigned to get the y-pipe buttoned up... Best of luck!

DONE!:)

I had great help. Took about 12 hrs.

I noticed a much smoother engine during easy driving.

Tomorrow I'll pull the camper, supposed to hit 100 degrees!
