$8,500, Good deal?

It is in good condition, the interior has some stains, no rips, everything works as it should, all stock, no 5th wheel, just towing package or trailer hitch.

The quick story and details:

I stopped by a buddy's lot and he had one. They tell me it is a old golfing buddy's so I call him and he says KBB trade in is $11K. After explaining the following he says he'll take $8,500, the important thing is he sell it since he has no use for it anymore.

He use to own 27 Carwashes and used it to haul chemicals and service the car washes. He has since sold the Car Washes and is selling off all his trailers and therefore, the truck. The alternator was rebuilt less than a year ago and he has put 2 new batteries in it within the last two years.

I drove it, solid. When I got on the accelerator I could hear the turbo and it kicked in. The front end, solid, drove straight, no rattles to speak of.

Unfortunately its more than I want to spend, but what are your thoughts? I might be able to if its that good of a deal.

Thoughts?

yup, it does sound like a good deal!

seeing as it's at a buddies lot, you could probably get away with pulling the intake boot off and checking out the turbo fins for any damage/dusting.

-and the old blow-by test of flipping the oil fill cap onto the stem to see if it blows off. rattling off it ok, blowing off may indicate excessive blow by/compression issues.

but, otherwise it sounds nice.

i just bought a 2001 last year with about that mileage and so far so good (knock on wood).

I might have to see if I can scrambe around and get some cash. I thought that was low mileage and the truck drove real nice. I haven't done the oil cap test, but I would before I bought it. Also, the dealer told me to deal with the owner and they would take care of the paperwork for free. I'm sure I'll still have to pay tax/registration.

At the moment it is a lift on the back, but the owner has the original tailgate and bumper and would be happy to put them back on. It's also got a headache rack and toolbox, but I don't want any of that stuff. That lift on the back looks expensive, I didn't even really look at it. Maybe I could get him to throw it in and I could sell it to re-coop some cash along with the toolbox and headache rack.

Truck started right up, all the lights came on and then turned off.

I mean the lights turned off, so nobody unplugged the check engine light.

The owner is a straight up guy, I've known him for years. He doesn't play golf any more so I haven't seen him.

By the way, the truck is Burgandy with silver on the bottom, XLT. I really want a 7.3L as they seem to be the most reliable.
