Hello everyone. I am new to forums in general but bear with me please.:D So I'm 19years old and have owned a 99' f-150 for 4 years and loved the truck dearly but I feel it was time to move on to a diesel due to having more responsiblitys on the farm and tired of borrowing my fathers F-350. So I hit craigslist in search of a 99-03 ext. cab long bed 7.3 due to their good reputation. While on craigslist I ran across a 03 ext. cab longbed 6.0 that had one owner before dealerships started trading it around. It has 123k on the ticker with one previous accident that seems to be fixed great.

On to my questions:
From research I have done I found that the 6.0s are very temperamental.. What should I look for when looking at this truck? I read that FCIM needed to be flashed a long time ago and I may need to check if it is running gold coolilant?

If I decide to upgrade I only on wanna do small things so I wouldnt mess anything so if you guys would check this list to see if I wont mess anything up to bad.

4" turbo back exhuast
Pillar pods with Engine collant temp, oil temp, boost, and tranny temp
Smaller programmer with mild tunes?
EGR delete.

Dont think I will push it hard enough to need new head studs..?

Unless you really enjoy working on your truck and get a kick out of monitoring for problems, just find a 7.3.

The 6.0L you found looks sharp. If you're serious about it you need to purchase a ScanGauge II or Edge CTS before you go to test drive. You'll need to cruise at a steady speed down the freeway for 15 min minimum... Or until temps finally stabilize. You'll be monitoring the EOT & ECT (oil & coolant temps). If the values are more than 15degrees off the oil cooler needs to be replaced. It will be a big bargaining chip for you if it needs to be done. You can either negotiate the price down and do it yourself (recommended) or get them to do it as part of the sale, and they can put your EGR delete in while they're there.

Those scanners can also see other problems like low HPOP pressures, failing injectors, bad FICM, and weak batteries. You've got some reading to do. Lots of great info & people on this site.

If you choose ScanGauge II, I think it is BulletProofDiesel that ships theirs out per-programmed for the 6.0L... Big hassle saver.

If I were starting fresh I would pass on the gauges w/ScanGauge and would buy myself the CTS.
