hey guys,
looking to lift my currently stock 02' f-350. interested in a 8" lift on 37's or maybe a 6" lift on 35's.
anyway my question is what kind of lift do you all have or recommend? I've heard that single shocks burn out faster (and they also look so small on such a big truck), dual shocks may be too much for what i need, and single shock with a resovoir might be just right. i would love to go with coilover suspension but that is way too pricey. looking for more opinions, facts, any help at all.
i do tow a boat so im looking to keep tow quality and somewhat ride quality in the picture, and go off roading every now and then, nothing extrem just a dirt road and some small mud patches. any input helps, thanks!
pictures are always cool too so feel free to add them:icon_ford:
s res shock is more for keeping the oil cool. nothing to do with ride really. duals can be ultra stiff if not being used heavyily offroad, but then the oil gets hot and ruins seals..... a 2.0 / 7100 series or larger is adjustable and rebuildable, you can valve to your liking and they look great.
Dual shocks I heard stiffen the ride up alot. If you went with say Icon kit with blisteen 5100s or Icons vs 2.0 non resivor you would get a pretty nice ride. Resivor shocks I heard will prolong the life of a shock and slightly increase the ride quality.
Stay away from emulsion shocks and go with nitrogen also..
fox is also comparable, has many choices and can be had for a little less.
my choice would KING, BILSTEIN, FOX....in that order, but it would depend on application and what i was doin. for a lifted street truck with little offroad i would run fox. medium duty dirt run bilstein, and all out rough speed on dirt ....king all the way.
I have duals on the front of mine and it doesn't seem to be that stiff but then again I haven't ever drove it with a single up front..and I have thought about seeing if I could make it ride better by taking one off but idk..and I have a 6inch lift on mine..
depending on the shock, it may react softe on compression, but you may not like rebound. as said, if you run duals , your better choice would be a shock that you can custom valve, set one up to take all the compression and one for rebound. a better choice would be a single 2.65 or 3.0, vavled correctly for the spring.
hey jeremy, do you, or will you have anything for the 04 ish superduty, i am looking for a 3-4 " lift. may do coilover but would prefer to spend a little less.
mainly looking to go softer leafs up front.... truck is just a DD, but i dont prefer canned lift kits.
BTW< i have had nothing but great things out of my PP long arms on my 06 powerwagon, and it is lifted 8"....
yeah, that is what i thought..... i am looking into deavers , but i am wanting to go with the longer 08up rears, and do as much or more lift with hard parts.....shackle flip, and shackle and hangers up fron.
that sounds about right, but i will say from past expierience.....MONEY WELL SPENT. although they were carli spec'd for a dodge, one of the two parties now there sheet !!!!
There are a lot of guys out there who want to conver their 7.3's to a coil/shock or coilover setup. The carli coilover kit is great because we provide the radius arm drops and coilover mounts and all you need is the axle, radius arm setup and the incidentals (brake lines, pitman arm, etc.).
As for the dual; only reason to go dual is aesthetic, not need. As others have said, ensure you're purchasing a kit that has two shocks valved for a dual application; ohterwise, hope you have good dental insurance. Most will recommend a single 2.5 custom valved over a dual 2.0.
shawnb99 thank for for explaining the valving of shocks, i was not aware that i could have that done or set up that way. would the most places do that when they lift the truck? like 4wheel parts or somewhere? i do use my truck for daily driver/offroad riding its about half and half.
We make for the 2005+ trucks with coil-spring front ends. We've done a few pre 05 trucks with custom deavers front and rear and king 2.5" shocks all around with great result but I came in here to discuss the single vs. dual shock setups. Just helping out... :thumb:
most of the CHAIN type 4x4 shops do not offer valving changes, nor would you want them to......you may find someone who has messed with it there, but messed around with it usualy means, took apart and looked at. it sounds like CARLI or ICON maybe the best hope for finding someone who has done a leaf front truck. short of ordering a stock valved shock by weight of vehicle, you would have to do some tuning yourself.
i recommend some carli videos, just to see how there coils work..... working with leafs is totally different in respect to watching suspension movement, but once you see how the travel is effected by bad valving, you quickly learn.
im sure that if you were to PM OCVELO, he may have some pointers towards what valving to order for starters.
i do want to apologize for not mentioning one other vendor.... but i dont recall the name, the ford world is relatively new to me.... i think it is ctperformance ?????? not sure. but thye seem knowledgeable in the pre 05 superduty's
I have the Fox Racing and I love them. Only had them on the street so far, still building, gotta re-gear yet and add lockers. I can say they smoothed her out way better than stock. I've traveled some bumpy roads before and after the lift and am much happier now sitting high and running smooth. I have jumped her on some steep R/R crossings and she lands smooth as silk. Now, I'm probably only getting a few inches of air, but the Fox do keep her from bouncing and she settles back down right quick.
