ok im looking into buying a diesel to haul my toys up north and to do some offroading. i was looking into getting a 99-03 7.3s but i really dont want to be spending over 10K. ive gotten some hits in my area but most of them are in the 150k-200k mile range. Should i be worried about the mileage? i know if it was a gas hog id have to be a little bit careful on them to make sure everything is still good. I know diesels last forever but would i be getting heavy problems in the engine if its at say 188k on the odometer? sorry if i sound like a newb but i rather find out from other diesel owners before i go off and buy one that has 200k on it and it break down the next day.

Welcome to the Addiction Bud! The 7.3 Diesel Engine is bulletproof. If the truck was maintained as it should be then the mileage you list is just about high enough for it to be broke in, I exagerate a little but I have a buddy that put over 500K on a wrecker with a 7.3. Brauden your search area and you will find one in your price range with a little less on the ticker, :thumb:

yea i found a obs at a decent price with 76K on it but i just dont have the cash upfront to put on it. and the body is a little bit shot up too. im just going to wait till tax time and save up in the process so i ca nget something i plan on having for while. i was just curious if i should worry about anything while hauling and offroading at 180K

welcome, if its got higher milage, i'd be as anal as possible, checking for and leaks or moisture anywhere, and all fluids and filters, its a great engine should last you a long time, you just have to assume that someone else beat the crap out of it until you can check it out and determine otherwise...... good luck with your hunt, you'll be happy.........

You are in the right place!
I was looking for a diesel to use on my newly inherited farm and came upon this site. I lurked and read for a couple of months.
I found a 99 250 6 speed and it had 240k on it. Bought it from an older guy who bought it with 235k from a person that had never pulled anything with it. Great truck
