Hello all I could really use some info. i was driving on the hwy yesterday and i put cruise control on at 80 mph, every so often my truck would kick. I noticed when I would come to a stop it was taking longer to get back up to speed than usual, then today im driving to work and I came to a stop at a light, when I stepped on the gas again it had almost no power and smoke poured out the back until I finally got up to the speed limit. my turbo gauge was not moving at all. Thanks in advance for any info.

When your truck would "kick" would your boost gauge drop a little bit? It sounds like your vanes might be sticking, but that doesn't explain the "kick" you describe. That sounds more like your EGR valve is stuck open. Maybe pull your EGR valve and clean it up real good. Chances are it needs cleaning anyway.

Ok well since my last post I drove the truck home and it seemed ok until I got about a mile from my house then when I would try to speed up from cruising about 40mph there was almost no power again until I finally hit 60mph. so
I went ahead and cleaned up the egr like you said and
I just drove it again, it seemed fine until it got warm and then it barley had any power from 10mph and up. It was a struggle to get it up to 45mph just a very slow steady acceleration. flooring it made no difference, it just made a bunch of exhaust smoke. As far as the gauge drop while it was kicking on the hwy I didn't notice unfortunately. I appreciate the help thanks.

Check the vgt soloniod on the passenger side of the turbo check and see that the plug is firmly attached to it also check the condition of the plug and wires.

Also I don't know how long you have had this truck but make sure someone didn't install a "smoke switch" that you might have accidentally engaged and causing a no boost issue. Your vgt soloniod will have 2 wires going to a plug that plugs in on the side othe turbo make sure there aren't any loose or frayed connections or any splices with other wires coming out of them indicating someone installed a smoke switch. Hope this helps.

Yeah start the truck and let it idle if you hear the turbo spooling its working then remove that plug and you should hear the turbo whistle in the exhaust cut out and the truck idle get a lot deeper and throatier so to speak.

Take the truck for a drive and see what kind of boost numbers your making when it's struggling to get up to speed. If they are very minimum I'd say your lookin at the very minimum a turbo tear down and cleaning. With the possibility of vgt soloniod replacement / turbo rebuild/replacement. To me it sounds like your having a significant loss of boost pressure. I could be wrong but I'd start with the obvious and easiest things to check first.
