ok wondering if anyone has the same problem. I put a 6" lift kit on with 37's and now i have like fro 10 to 2 o'clock steering wheel play. is that normal and how can i fix that+

I'm thinking you had some play prior to installing the lift etc and now it is more noticeable? If the linkage is tight then check the gearbox for play. Seen a lot of boxes failing lately.

on my 01 i tightened it at the box, not sure if my 06 is the same... if so, go at it from the top, there is a hex in the middle of a nut, loosen the nut, tighten the hex bolt 1/2 a turn(not more), then tighten the bolt.... lift the front end off the ground and turn stop to stop make sure there is no binding and you are set..... going more then 3/4 of a turn or so will just make the thing bind up and wear out...ie..to tight, but you can get a about 1/2 turn tighter works fine, makes a world of differance

Should be the same. Get under your truck and pass your hand on top of the steering box, you should feel a nut with a flush hex bolt in the middle. That's what you need to adjust.

My stock 03 f350 has this issue, more or so noticeable since the draglink seperated from the tie rod end "threads rusted and the collar got loose". I had both complete tie rods and the drag link done with a fresh alignment. The problem still occurs. I'm now thinking its the gear box. Is there a special way to keep the steering wheel straight while doing this? I'm off by 10-15degrees

The steering wheel should become tighter which should straighten it.......if the alignment is true. You may need to re-align it if the steering wheel isn't as straight as you'd prefer. I'd adjust it some and see what happens though.

can you go at it from the top on a 6.0L. i was thinking i should take the air filter out and might have to move the charge pipe on the drivers side to get to it. but just wondering what i need

Mine had the same thing. I ended up putting a new steering box and that solved everything...

Not sure what the hex bolt is, but the first jam nut is 11/16". The actual nut below that is 5/8".

I just got done tightening it on my '06 and you can access it from the fenderwell or from underneath (however, I have an 8" lift and 37 tires and made it really easy).

Anyway, it did not fix my problem. To the OP...same thing here. My steering was tight until I installed lift and tires. I tigthened the adjusting screw and it didn't fix anything. I had my girfriend move the wheel where the play was (10 to 2 o'clock) and looked at the steering box and the play is definitely in the box. The pitman arm and drag link barely move while she is moving the steering wheel. Looks like I'll be ordering a Red Head steering gear box!
