OBS Crew Cab Black Interior Install

So I hope I'm not jinxing myself by starting this thread, but I want to start the thread now so I have a place to post pictures, ask questions, and get advice. I'm getting ready to update my OBS Crew Cab interior. I'm going all black wih minimal grey/silvery trim. For sure I'm blacking out carpet, headliner, door panels, and seats and replacing most interior bulbs with their corresponding LEDs. I'm not going for a cheap-o ricer or high-schooler look either. (No offense to any of you high-schoolers. Some of you do GREAT work! Just a figure of speech.) I am also not looking for a tough-guy, macho feel. I'm a husband and a dad who just wants a nice interior without having to buy a new truck. I did my time as a United States Marine so I have nothing to prove, so no flames or skulls or no-fear stickers. I'm just looking to update and refresh what I consider to be a dated and worn interior look in a mature and comfortable way. I'll try to make sure and be detailed and pic-heavy. For now, if you have any pictures of OBS's with all-black interiors, post them up! I am still planning this, so I'm open to suggestions!

I am subscribing to see how this goes for sure.
Thanks man! Hopefully I won't disappoint!

As far as dome, map, step/courtesy, and glove box lights I'm going with white LEDs. With those lights my main concern is maximizing visibility and getting rid of yellow light. (I hate yellow light.) As far as instrument cluster and dash lights I'm on the fence between a few colors. As of right now I'm thinking you're right about the blue. I've been looking at a lot of Harley Davidson interior pictures and a lot of them have blue lights. I think it looks great. My JVC head unit and my gauges have about a million color options so those should integrate easily to whatever I choose. I'm hoping to see/post pictures of different interior light colors. If blue looks as good as I think it will, I might put some blue LED strips down under the dash and under the back seat for mood lighting. Just for the occassional date night with the wife. (Gotta give the truck the sexy limo feel. Haha.)

I sure hope not lol but I'm sure it will come out great. I was thinking though if you put the newer Harley seats in it would look awesome too. But idk if your looking to do leather or not.

I like your white idea for the lights that actually need to be used to see things... have you seen this link before?

figure maybe that will give you a good idea of the process and also how sweet blue led would look!
Wow. Yep. That settles that. Hahaha. Blue it is. Thanks for the link!

I am looking to do all leather except Mama Bear's seat. She doesn't like the leather feel on her skin when she's rockin the legs. :wink[3]: I can't afford harley seats any time soon, though, so I'm looking at some perfect fit seat covers or reupholstering my existing seats.

Hopefully I can start this weekend. I've got a fuel leak I've been chasing wrasslin' with so once I take care of that I'll start ordering replacement bulbs.

Idk about the OBS but the Superduty 7.3 I heard are bad about leaking around the fuel filter

That's where it started. Now I'm like the little dutch boy. Haha. It should be all fixed now. Replaced the leaking line and I should be back in business. Time to clean out the truck, install the new head unit, and pull the first door panel.

the LEDs in the interior lights will be WAY bright at night but not very noticeable in the daytime. my son has them in his blazer & he put them in the mother in laws subi. its like someone turned on the sun when the door opens up.

 Hahaha. Yeah yeah. I'm getting there. I gotta take care of two more things before I can start on those. First things first, now. Who knows of a good interior plastic and fabric paint?

That sounds like exactly what I want. If they end up being too bright I might think about smoking the lenses :woot: That would be new, I think.

well I know that a lot of it has to do with how you prep and how many coats and all that good stuff. But idk if you want it shiny I would think putting a coat or two of clear would help with durability too.

I agree. The last couple things I painted are all ruined because I didn't clear coat. I think they make matte finish clear coat if I don't want shine.

Well, all black interior with some gray accents in some spots (don't know which yet). Blue LEDs in dash and instrument panel, new jvc head unit, black or black and gray custom seat covers or harley davidson seats (whichever is cheaper) , super duty steering wheel (if I can find one), white LED interior lights (possibly with smoked lenses). I think that about sums up the goal. After I'm done with the exhaust and the fuel leak I will install the head unit. After that's done I will pull the first door panel to repair the non-functioning speakers in the front. At that point I will paint the first door panel and come up with the gray on black pattern for the doors. I think I might want to re-cover the vinyl patches on the door panel with black leather. I think that would look great. Then I'll start replacing lights with LEDs. Then I'll pull trim and paint it all black. Then I will decide how I plan to change the color of the visors and headliner and do those. Carpet and seats will most likely be done last and at the same time. It's just logical to cover them while they're out of the truck for the carpet install.

So after looking in bunch of places online last night I think I might be settling on blue dome light panels from Oznium.com and cool white map lights from amazon.com

I'm really digging the blue interior look, but I don't want to over-do it. For sure I'll be doing all instruments and dash lights in blue. I also know I need white light to read with at night. The only undecided things here are the dome lights and the courtesy/step lights at the bottoms of the door panels.

No clear coat! Go to paint store and buy sem black vinyl dye! $12 a can all you gotta do is rub with alcohol then soapy water let dry and dont touch with fingertips! I done a few thing with this and it works great!
