I'm not sure if there's stage II injectors for an IDI, but if you do some research, there are some injectors made for other engines(Like the Caterpillar 3208---almost identical to the 7.3 IDI) that might give you some more power. Also, if you've got a fuel injector specialist in the area, they might be able to rebuild the injectors to give you a little extra "fan" in the injector's spray stream.

turbo kit is the way to go with these and they do have marine injectors max lagod is the man to talk to from hypermax but best thing to do is ditch it the first time and buy a 12 valve cummins engine ive been there done that and played with these idis had the baddest one around with a ton of money wraped up in it and was still a boat ancor but ran good for what it was it had hypermax internals port polished heads banks sidewinder with a boost valve for a 12 valve what made me 20psi in a idi marine injectors and pump maxed out it probably made a solid 300hp if it ever hit the dyno ditched it with only 7,000 mile on the build for a 12 valve and ran out of budget and sold the project

plus just changing injectors in these dont really do anything theres not enough injection pressure to really make a diffrence without more air therefore need a turbo

+1 on both of Diesel Davy's posts. I didn't want to get into going on about the turbo, but if you want to keep the engine it's the way to go. Otherwise, I'd take Davy's previous advice about sticking a gen 1 Cummins in there. It's far superior to the IDI.

why not just buy and install a used NOS system? Easy to install and use, reduces black smoking from turning up the pump while spraying and gives max bang for buck in this application.

IDI's can be made to run guys, new stuff has been devoloped (120-150-180cc IP's).

Truck dyno'ed around 350hp and just under 800 ft lbs. They are going to switch from DPS injectors (cause they suck) to stock injectors that have been set with a higher pop pressure. Running 30+psi of boost....

I know this is an old thread, but wondering how the truck above has held up? What's needed to squeeze 300hp from these old engines?
