I have an 01 and when I start it in the morning it smokes a lot even when its 50 degrees out. It also runs kinda rough. When it warms up its all good and runs fine. Would this be a possible injector going out.

Might be an injector or an injector cup. Check to see if you have fuel in your cooling system, if so it is an injector cup. I had a cracked cup in mine recently with the same symptoms.

How did you find which one it was. Take it to ford and put on computer?

Could also be a dirty FPR screen (dont think SD's have the screen, but they have something similar). My truck would do the same thing.. be a ***** to start, be smokey, run rough etc.

Cleaned the FPR screen and it starts without an issue, smoke free, no poor idle etc.

well checked antifreeze and it smells like diesel and is black in reservoir. Guess injector cups be bad?

Yes, that is a sign of a bad injector cup. I do not think it is a computer diagnosed problem. I bought all new cups and did them all. The cups are not expensive, the repair labor or tool to do the job is. You can buy a tool online (I did and it worked great) and change the cups without pulling the heads or pull the heads and take them to a machine shop. Regardless, you will have a pretty big repair job on your hands.

Did you re use the wires and valve cover gaskets or buy new ones?

I bought new ones, along with new glow plugs and glow plug harnesses. They are right there when you are working on the truck, so a little preventive maintenance doesn't hurt.

It's in the fuel bowl on the side of it (drivers side). AE probably cant tell, no.

check the oil... anything strange in the oil? Could also be oil cooler or MAYBE hg.
