So today my truck started to shudder when its in drive and start to takeoff. Truck has been running/shifting fine before today. It does fine shifting through all the gears, and doesn't shudder once i'm above like 7mph. It does seem like shifts are slightly slower, but that could be my imagination. Also, if i put the gear selector to 1st, it seems like it shudders just a little, but not as much as when in drive. The torque converter is still factory, after 2 tranny rebuilds and 205k miles, so could the TC be bad? I've read that it could be a driveline issue as well? The carrier might need to be shimmed or something? I havn't lifted my truck recently, so the driveline angles are the same. i did notice that the carrier (thats the piece that connects the 2 piece driveshaft correct?) was a little loose, but isn't a little of play normal? Any help would be great. Thanks, Mitch.

Well, now i'm pretty sure it is the TC. I drove it today, and it's fine when its not warmed up, but as the tranny temp rises it starts to shudder. Also, if i give it more fuel on takeoff the rpms spike then the TC catches and goes. Any advice on TC options? i'm looking for a triple disk, something a little heavier duty than stock. but under like $500 if i can.

Thats not the convertor, thats the clutches slipping.

Well, i noticed today that when i manually put the gear selector in 1 or 2 it still shudders, even worse when in 2. I was told that when manually in 1 or 2 it eliminates the sprag clutch in the tranny, so it should be a Torque Converter problem right? If not, i find it difficult to believe that my rebuilt tranny is going bad after 10k miles, but my stock TC is holding up for 205k. But, i'm no mechanic so... yeah..

My stock torque converter has 322k, so yes it can hold up.
I would check for low line pressure, or low forward/direct clutch pressure first. I can't remember if it is called the direct clutch or the forward clutch at the moment and I can't get to my E4OD/4R100 book right now, but it is the one that originally had the wave plate. You did have the wave plate removed and an extra friction added when the transmission was "beefed up" didn't you? I would bet on low line pressure and the pedal on the right has burned up those clutches.

I have no idea what all was replaced when my tranny was rebuilt last time, i was on vacation and my brother broke the tranny and had it rebuilt. Unfortunately, he forgot to clean out/drain the TC before he put the trans back in. I drained the tranny after 1k miles after puttin the rebuilt one it. What would cause low line/clutch pressure? My cousin, a mechanic, said something about that when he drove the truck, since it only acts up around 0-2 mph, but once the truck gets goin its fine, and when the TC is locked ,4th and OD, it doesn't slip at all. But, he also said that since it also acts up when the gear shift is in 1 or 2 that it shouldn't be the Tranny because it eliminates the sprag clutch's. To be honest, he was a little confused about it because when his TC went out in his old 6.0 he said it would slip when it's locked and he put the pedal down. Transmissions make no sense to me, so i'm completely lost about this. I'm having my brother take it to the guy who rebuilt the tranny today to see what he thinks.

All the details on what could cause low pressure(s) would take me hours to type. The first thing to do is CHECK the pressures with a guage. I think it would be money well invested for you to buy a book that explains the E4OD/4R100.
