I have a pending sale on my truck and thinking about heading down south to look at some trucks.

I found this truck, it has some basic mods done to it but it has the BO head gaskets....should I run or would I be ok. I dont want to drive 12 hours to look at a truck that will pop another gasket.

Honestly without knowing anything more about the truck such as deltas and mileage and how he drives it I would say hold out for something better. You will end up doing those head gaskets again but the good thing is that as long as the head studs weren't over torqued they can be reused. The down side is that since it's already had the heads off once there's a good possibility they have been decked already and that wouldn't leave much if any room for machining this time around without a FULL VALVE JOB.

Do yourself a favor and hold out til you find one that's been done right or one that hasn't been touched that you can do the right way and be comfortable knowing it will last.

I hear you. If it was closer to me Id feel more comfortable about going to look at it and then leaving it if I didnt like it...but not for a 12 hour drive...even if I did make a mini vaca out of it lol

Do not buy a truck with BO gaskets.. they will last you about 8-10k miles and you will be pulling the cab to replace them with OEM gaskets.. I would look hard at a stock or lightly modded without BO gasket truck.

I actually feel bad for them... it seems like at the time they were doing the BEST thing it there. (Imagine you were new and everyone told you to do it. Then next year you find out your sitting on a time bomb)

I would want to sell that truck too before it grenaded!

They put so much time and money into it only to find out that BO sucks!!!

Also, I will be doing my HG with the cab on... Bryan, wanna help? :D

Yeah, that would suck. That's a bit of time and money, just to find out that what everyone thought at the time needs to be redone.

Says who?? Maybe if thats what you do for a living and have a lift to do the job. But for the average joe its not feasible to do it with the cab off and it would also take longer for someone with no experience pulling the cab to do so and then start the tear down than it would to just start ripping into it.

I was actually talking to the OTHER Bryan in this thread (Ford7three)
He lives like right next to me and for the record I agree with BOTH of you!

It is easier, But If I won't have a lift, i'll just tear into it:nod:
