Long time since I’ve last posted. For the last few years I’ve been dealing with a shift flare...mainly from 5 to 6. After some arguing with the dealer (at 40k) I was always told it was within spec. Fast forward, out of extended warranty (125k), I went to a non dealer diesel shop who said they have seen this before. They changed my valve body (with new solenoids) and the truck shifts amazingly now.

I had tried the BD solenoid in the past, changed fluid lots, tried all kinds of tunes...to no avail.

Keep the valve body in mind.

It was $1100. Valve body and solenoids were a touch less than $600. Then they did three drain and fills, changed the filter. No reprogramming was necessary and I was given a card with the shift strategy For the new solenoids.
