Okay guys I'm looking into getting new truck, right now I have a 1997 7.3 powerstroke. I really like the truck I have now I'm just looking for more power and towing capability. I know most of your going to say to keep the 7.3 but I don't wanna spend 10,000 dollars to get over 350 400 horsepower. So what im looking into getting is an 06 or 07 6.0 or 2009-2010 6.4 my limit is about 30 to 32,000 dollars. I know they both have their problems but I'm willing to do it takes to bulletproof either motor . Of course I would do the Egr delete on both and the DPF delete on the 6.4 and then head studs eventually on either. So just wondering what you guys think on what I should do in this situation.

Id go 6.4 all the way if you have plans and $$ to stud and delete and no emissions testing in your state. A 6.4 with modded exhaust in ca is a sketchy thing to drive around imo cuz a local pd or chp can see that the tail pipe has been modified and pull you over and site you for tampering with emissions equipment because the tailpipe is involved in allowing the dpf to work. But on a 6.0 you can mod the exhaust because it doesn't come with the 6.4 style tailpipe. Basically incriminating yourself if you have a modded tailpipe on a 6.4 in ca imo. Just my take whether your state has emissions testing. Ca does so I wouldnt get a 6.4 I would just build a badass 6.0l that can smoke 6.4's. But if you live in a state with lax testing then 6.4 alll the waayyyyy.

Yea i have no emmision laws for diesel in NC, right now running dual 6" stacks on my 7.3. If i get another truck its goin to stay kinda like a sleeper, leveled at most on 34s or 35s. On either choice i wanna be around 500hp reliably. To get my 7.3 even close to that im looking at spending 10-15k (built tranny, fuel system, hpop, IC, Injectors, Turbo, Studs, Etc.) or more and that really isnt goin to value that truck any more. I want a nice clean truck to be able to be DD and be decent for towing when i need it and the occasional ricer smash.

Another thing is ive been doin alot of research on the 6.4s and they have catostrofic engine faliures due to melting pistons or fuel pump leaking? Also heard they are a B*?!h to work on.

I would love to have a 6.4 to add to my collection. Problem is 90% of the engine work on a 6.4 the cab has to be pulled to complete and I don't have a garage with a lift to do my own work so repairs would get costly in a hurry. Now with the 6.0's they do have considerably more problems than the 6.4's BUT you don't need a garage and a lift to repair them. I just studded mine in my driveway without any real special tools. So for me personally I won't own a 6.4 until I have a garage and lift that I can do all my own work on it in. Other than that I'd say if your looking for the most reliable hp for the least amount of $ than to with the 6.4. But remember if it needs repair work or deleted or studded or hpfp takes a crap and you don't have a lift your gonna be paying someone else to do the work for you and that's not going to be cheap.

Personally there is no way I'd trade my 6.0 for a 6.4. The 6.0 is much easier to work on and if you take care of the few issues it has is a great motor. Besides I still think the 05-07 Super Duty is the best looking truck Ford has ever made.

I'd take a 6.0 over a 6.4. The 6.4 can make a lot more power, but when something fails it's usually much more expensive that a 6.0 repair. If you want an idea of how hard they are to work on, one of my best friends is a former Ford diesel tech and does the stuff on my truck that I can't. He told me he'd stop answering my calls if I bought a 6.4. :funny:

I'm also one of the people who feels the 05-07 trucks look better than any other truck Ford has made.

I third that 05-07 are the better looking trucks both inside and out. However if what you want is 400+ horsepower then 6.4 is the way to go just because it is easier to get a 6.4 to 400+ than a 6.0.

And if it was me spending my money 6.0 all the way.

You know i have a 6.0 and I'm thinking of going to a 6.4 I beleave there are a better engine and I like finish they have on those new trucks it just seems like they took more time designing it with the dash and door panels, granted I haven't had a problem with my 6.0 I just like the dependability of the truck as well it's comman rail vs Huey injection so idngo with a 6.4 that's what I'm doind
