It is the gauge sending unit in the tank. How heavy is the tank well that depends on how much fuel you have in it. I would wait till you get down to about a 1/4 or 1/8 of a tank then drop the tank down.

It takes about 30 minutes at the most to drop the tank and open it up. Be advised though the dealer wants around 300 dollars for a new sending unit. I found one at the local junkyard I got the whole tank for 150. I just used the pick up tube assembly from that tank on my tank.

I waited until the low fuel light came on and drove another 20 miles before i dropped my tank. It made it easy to remove being that low on fuel.

I used the electric fuel pump to pump the last of it out through the filter drain after I drove it to as near empty as I dared by jumping power to it or cycling the key. The tank probably weight less than 30 pounds. It will cost you around $35 to do the intank and prepump filter mods and I highly recommend doing it, well worth the effort in my opinion. Take a look at the pics I took when I did it to mine.
