Has anyone restored original alloy rims and if so, how?
I just got a donor truck (mostly for the interior) that has a set of original rims and was thinking of trying to clean them up or restore them.

It depends on the time/money but there are some great videos on YouTube for aluminum wheel restoration etc. you can spend all day or just a few hours etc.

Personally it might be better to watch them vs someone here trying to explain via words etc.

Has the clear coat flaked off and wheel corroded?

I was restoring some but the pitting was too severe.

Good videos on youtube and are fairly simple.

Strip clear coat
Sand if needed
Polish

Just takes lots of elbow grease

I've got a set on a donor truck. Two are pitted pretty badly, 2 seem redeemable. I've seen a few videos, but I figured I'd see if anybody here had done it.

Out of all the wheels i've done, these are some of the easiest.

But the ones with pitting still didn't look right when polished.
