Hey guys. Working on my rear differential. Ford/Sterling 10.25 - 91 F250 idi. 7.3.

When i Removed the pinion seal, there wasnt much gear oil that had dripped out. (Less than a shot glass) and I recognized that more fuild had common drain out in some instructional videos I watched.
Now keep in mind the truck is parked at a decent slant with the rear end lower than the front . (I imagine thats keeping it from draining more.)
I want to know if I can add a little bit of new gear oil to the existing fluid.

I dont want to have to remove the rear differential cover and replace the gasket. Just want to keep it the project simpler and cheap.

(I would end up finishing my yoke project and driving to level ground)

Removing the filler bolt on the diff housing and letting it drain to acknowledge how the quality of the fluid looked and how much of it was actually in there.
So what I want to know is
Do ihave to drain it completely to add fresh gear oil?
Or can I open the plug and add some fresh oil to the existing oil.

And now that I have written this all down I realize that the fill bolt looks as if its positioned to mark the "fill level" to begin with.
Making me feel likw an idiot for the question. Haha
Please confirm this for me guys^^

Pop the diff cover over a oil catch, take a peek at everything, clean up and rtv or a buy a new gasket, pump 80-90 gear oil until it leaks out fill. :) Hard to go wrong.
