Hey, my wife called me yesterday and said the truck died, I showed up, it was obviously out of fuel. It's a 2000 F-250 7.3 PSD. I added 18 gallons of fuel and replaced the fuel filter. I cycled the pump 4 or 5 times but it still wouldn't fire. I tried opening the valve on the back of the fuel bowl with the pump on, nothing. It seems like the fuel pump isn't pushing any fuel. It's making a whirring sound but it doesn't sound like it's picking up fuel because it doesn't bog down like it's building pressure. I know 18 gallons has to be enough for it to pick up, even after it was run dry. Any suggestions? We are stuck with one vehicle right now and it's very difficult for us. Thanks!!

I tried that, still wont fire. Even if I add fuel directly to the bowl, it's not building any pressure. Everytime I cycle the pump, it runs for the full 20 seconds and never sounds like it's moving fuel. I think I'm gonna try to manually feed to pump but I'll need to get a fuel line tool first, and going back and forth (my truck is parked on the street a few blocks from the house) is becoming a real pain...

Check the pump to see if it even works anymore, Might have overheated, unplug a line then cycle your key, if you see fuel it works, IF not, just keep priming and hope for the best.
figured i'd let you know i got it running. ended up pulling the fuel line of the intake side of the pump, siphoned diesel from the tank, then cycled the pump. had fuel spraying out of the valve on the bowl on the first cycle, fired right up.
