Here's the deal. I missed out on an 06. After looking i can get an 08 with less then 100k miles but the catch is that it's an XL. Is it worth it to get the XL for say 16k and put a grille, wheels and tires on it and cover the seats?? what else is it missing. Seems like a bit undertaking to do it but its the only way i can afford the 08. Thanks.

depends on how you like it. do you like it it because it's an 08? if you don't like it because it's a XL, no matter what you do to it, you still won't like it. deep down, you'll always think "it's just a XL". my boss has a 2000 XL. the only options were diesel and air. he's done nothing to it. he bought it because he liked the truck. eleven years later, he likes it even more.

Does it have power windows? I have an XL and prefer it over all other packages to tell you the truth. I normally get Lariats, but got tired of carpet and seats getting messed up from abuse. I got the XL because of the vinyl floor and seats and I LOVE IT. My truck has every other option though, I couldnt live without power windows/locks.

yes it has power windows and locks. I'm not so bothered by vinyl floors. Its the vinyl seats look terrible. Grille and lites are simple fixes. As are wheels if you plan on changing anyway.

I also have an XL that I bought for a song, The truck only had bucket seat, alarm, and A/C and made it my own toy.
The floor covering I like, its my 3 rd truck with vinyl flooring that can be cleaned with an air hose.
And the wheels I bought after market $61hub caps that look great, I prefer steel wheels on trucks for towing heavy.
I bought used almost new manual 2008 trailer towing model mirrors for $100.
Installed a GPS 6.2 Din2 radio with rear cam, for less then $400.
The bucket seat option has been the best
The Ford alarm system has been wired for power lock for $20 with after market locking actuators.
All the above and Programer along with ScangaugeII, was done when I bought it 4 years ago
The chrome grill, I bought an after market for $100 last winter and use the undistructable XL grill for my winter cover and fly screens in the spring.
My truck is an XL and no theft problem and been great for the past 4 years.

l'll swap you my chrome lariat grill for your black xl grill straight up......... oh and you can get Katskins for the seats for under $1000.....i put an aftermarket very nice carpet kit in mine, just wanted to change up the interior a bit, for $165....
