My son was driving this around this morning(I was riding along), taking salt blocks to cattle. We went around a corner and we suddenly lost power. He kept putting it in neutral, then drive, and I asked him if it was the tranny or motor. We kind of coast into our small town, and the truck died. Before it died, he said the oil pressure gauge was jumping around. Got out to check, and noticed a stream of oil we left on the road behind. Popped the hood, and there was oil over the engine. I couldnt tell where it was coming from, but checked the dipstick, and there wasnt any oil on it! :-( Pulled it into a local shop today, told the mechanic to check it out, and see what had happened. This just turned over 250K about a month ago, but has ran flawlessly. Any ideas?

hmmm, maybe you blew an oil line off, theres a crack somehwere, was there any kind of noise before it died?

Nope, no noise, just turned the corner, and son noticed lack of power when he accelerated. Would rev up, but wouldnt go over about 30-40 mph.

could you hear the turbo? was you making any boost?

Could be a high pressure oil line or the oil ports under the turbo both are pretty common

I've blown a line off the HPOP and it ran like you described. Remade one with hydraulic hose a fittings and it's been great.

You probably blew a HPOP line. Fix the line, fill er up with oil and go!

Whre is the HPOP line located? I dropped it by a local mechanic, and he agreed, that could be the problem. Said there is an o-ring that sometimes get blown out, unless the line ruptures itself.

Just went through Hays the week after July 4th, visited relatives in Denver. Ended up buying a 2002 F-350(powerstroke), and my son drove it home the following Sunday!

Yep my bet is the HPO line and probably the O ring is what went south. Makes a heck of a mess but no damage is done. The injectors work off oil pressure so if you were out of oil the engine would stop before any damage could be done. One good thing about the Heui type injectors. I would replace all the O rings while you are at it.
