I joined this site a while back to do my homework in regards to buying my first diesel. I have found a really nice 2002 Excursion LTD with the 7.3L. My concerns are this. I am a firefighter on a very busy volunteer dept. and we get a lot of calls in the middle of the night. I live in Canada, so we get some harsh winter weather and I want to take precautions when starting up cold in the night and running fast to the fire hall. Can anyone recommend a setup? I was thinking pre-oiler and remote start, that would at least give it 30seconds of running time and oil before I have to go. I would also plug into a block heater too. Any feedback would be appreciated.

With a remote start and keeping the block heater plugged in, you should be ok.
