Now that my truck is paid off and warranty is gone I have decided to start having fun with it. I have a friend that is a ford mechanic and he is going to do my head studs and EGR delete(sinister kit) along with replacing some wear and tear parts(thermostat, coolant houses, etc). I do not have many mods on my truck yet other than turbo back exhaust and will be getting an SCT tuner for the EGR code. Since the engine will already be pulled are there any good mods that I should consider?

Gauges/Monitoring system are a must. GET THEM. Rebuild the oil cooler, update the STC fitting on the HPOP, coolant filter, and switch to an ELC coolant.

I have already had the STC fitting replaced and updated. We were already planning to replace the oil cooler and coolant filter just didn't list it.

Gauges are something I am looking into. Are there any performance mods that require pulling the engine that I should look into? Im not looking to rebuild the engine or anything, just dont want to have all this done then realize there is a great mod that I didn't know about that I should have done while its pulled.

Thanks for the reply

Yea not really. Since you are not rebuilding your motor, I wouldnt pull it. If you had your mind set on like a flex plate or torque converter then I would say to just pull the transmission and if you wanted a fluidampr harmonic balancer you would only have to pull the radiator I think. Anyways that is all I can think of. Hope it helps.

Been doing some research and was thinking, if I am planning to do a tuner and gauges/monitor system wouldnt it make sense to do it all in one? I know the SCT livewire has the EGT but that its. Would I be better off going with a brand that as the tuner and 2-3 monitoring devices together....I think EDGE and bully dog have something like that?

Edge Insight CS or CTS for monitor and SCT X3 for tunes. Forget the Bullydog or Livewire etc. Forget the Edge tuners. Just the Insight Monitor and SCT for tunes.

Personaly I like the combo of the Edge Insight CTS and the SCT SF3 for tuning. The Livewire IMO is not a good data monitor... The CTS is light years past the Livewire, but I wouldnt use Edge for tuning thats why you stick with the Insight for data. The SF3 has 5 canned tunes and has room for 3 custom tunes

While your heads are off, send them to a knowledgable machine shop to be checked for flatness, magna-fluxed for cracks, and pressure tested.

Stick with a SCT product for a tuner, and either the Edge Insight CS/CTS or ScangaugeII for monitor.
