Ok so im in the market on looking for a new truck. I have been looking everywhere and reading up on a lot. Now I only have about $20,000 to spend on a truck and its putting me right around the 00-06 ford diesels. Now I have heard a lot about the 7.3 and how they pretty much pull through anything:thumb: but I want a newer interior style. I have been able to find a lot of really nice 05-06 but I have heard that the motors in the 06 are not good and to stay away from them. So what I am really trying to ask here is what would be a safe milage rand on the motor? (I know its a diesel motor and it can go for 300,000+ but you have to change almost everything in it at that point) What are some of the major issues with the 06 and if they r still around today and have around 150,000 miles on it would it be worth looking into? If I only have $20,000 then should I be looking at an f150 or can I get an f250 like what I want.

I think you can find a nice F250 within your $20,000 budget. Idk who told you that 06 is a bad year but 05-07 6.0s are for the most part identical. I say try to stay under 130k miles, just because I have seen plenty of 6.0s for less than $20k and have less miles than that. Someone will post up links I'm sure, but there is a thread called "Things to consider before buying a 6.0" that you could do a search and find. You need to read this before making a decision. Good luck finding you a truck :thumb:

I love my 05 F350 dually, and before that I had an 02 F250. The 7.3 is a dang fine motor and it can take lots of abuse. The 6.0 is a more powerful motor that takes more maintenance but if you are willing to learn and put in the time then its also a great motor. I wouldn't trade back to the 7.3 even though I loved that truck but my 05 with the 6.0 is so much better, especially when its towing. If you go looking, get an OASIS report from the dealer, get the full history not the 180 day history, and then fine one with a clean record. Mine had a lot of warranty work but they put back in the upgraded parts so I took a chance. So far so good. The 6.0 can quickly drain your wallet if you don't learn up on it and make repairs yourself so this is something to think about. So many of the horror storys on the 6.0 are overblown. If you get a set of good gauges that monitor Oil temp, Coolant temp, tranny temp, EGT temps, and fuel pressure you should be good to go and catch anything before it leads to blown head gaskets and the such. Hope this helps.
