Ok fellas I currently have an onboard system that runs my air bags. It's a pretty basic system. Compressor is mounted under the hood with a only 2 forks in the line...1 to the guage inside the cab and one between the 2 bags. It's wired to an upfitter, so to inflate the bags the upfitter must be on and then there is a momentary toggle that must be held for the compressor to run. Now that the boring details are out of the way I want to add a tank and air horns to the truck. :thumb: Anybody got some thoughts on how I could do that using my current system?

Also, what size air compressor? Too small and it will be working longer to fill tank, this could cause premature failure of the compressor by overheating it.

I recommend a viair compressor/tank in one.

Hey guys thanks for the replies. The horns will be the best actual air horns I can get a deal on...probably something off a semi. I know they will need a lot of air and that's why I want to incorporate the tank in the system. I'm just not sure how or if I can fill the tank and my airbags with one compressor.

You can use one compressor but it has to be a good one and you will have to use an electric solenoid to raise and lower the bags. Like I mentioned before you'd be best to get an all in one from viair for the horns and airing up tires. And leave the bags on the small compressor as is.

Got you. I was just trying to avoid the 2 compressor set up, but it seems like that will be the best and also the easiest way to go.

Sorry for the late reply, I feel like a$s today.
assuming that compressor has enough cfm to keep up, you will need a tank to store the compressed air size depends on the horns, my horns will empty a ten gallon tank in about two seconds.
From there you will need some electric solenoids one to let the air in the bags ane one to let it out, you will also need a solenoid for the horn (most cheaper horns come with one) run all the line. And wire the switches is most of it, you will need to use a on/off pressure switch to "tell" the compressor to come on when the tank gets low.
your other option would be to run lines and ball valves into the cab to do everything manually. But you can get low flow solenoids pretty cheap.
